Ferrier Success for Louise Alder
RCM soprano Louise Alder has been awarded second prize at the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
The Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship Fund’s Annual Competition - which has a reputation as “Britain’s most prestigious singing awards” - offers the chance for young professional singers to compete for glittering cash prizes and instant international recognition.
In the Final, which took place on Friday 26 April at London’s Wigmore Hall, Louise sang Donizetti’s Prendi per me (L'elisir d'amore), Debussy’s Apparition, Mozart’s In uomini, in solidati (Cosi fan Tutte), Money by Huw Watkins, Son by Rachmaninoff and Quilter’s Love's philosophy.
After the competition Louise commented: “The Wigmore is the most magical place to sing in and the atmosphere was electric! I was honoured to be in the final and heard alongside such talented young artists.”
The Royal College of Music’s Summer Season offers two chances to see Louise, who is studying as the inaugural Kiri Te Kanawa Scholar in the RCM International Opera School: she is playing the role of Gabrielle in the International Opera School’s production of La Vie Parisienne in June, and performing an evening of Debussy songs in The Young Debussy on 20 May.
