The Royal College of Music Secures Rare Gagliano Violin
Violin students in the Historical Performance Faculty at the RCM will benefit from the generous long-term permanent loan of an original 1758 Nicolò Gagliano violin, possibly the only remaining violin in its original Baroque set up.
Each term a new student will be given the instrument to play, enabling a growing community of violinists to share this unique instrument and learn from its rich historical heritage.

The Gagliano violin has been loaned by an anonymous charitable benefactor, who said ‘making this instrument available for students in the Historical Performance Faculty at the Royal College of Music is the best possible use for it, and we are delighted that this has become possible.’

Head of Historical Performance Professor Ashley Solomon says ‘this tremendous gesture will allow our students to engage with a remarkable and unique instrument. It will be a source of inspiration for talented RCM violinists for years to come.’

The violin is an exceptional addition to an already significant stringed instrument collection at the Royal College of Music, which students can use to enhance their studies.
