BBC Proms 2016

The 2016 season of the BBC Proms has been announced and the Royal College of Music is delighted that RCM Artist Diploma pianist and Benjamin Britten Piano Fellow Pavel Kolesnikov (pictured) will make his Proms debut, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto no 2 with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and conductor Ilan Volkov.

2016 also sees RCM baritone Huw Montague Rendall make his proms debut, singing the role of Fiorello in The Barber of Seville with Glyndebourne Festival Opera. RCM vocal professor Janis Kelly will also appear in this concert-staging of Rossini’s comic masterpiece, singing the role of Berta.

RCM alumni will feature in Proms throughout the season, which this year includes performances by conductors John Wilson, Andrew Gourlay and Sir Roger Norrington, organist Wayne Marshall and singers Sarah Connolly, Elizabeth Watts, Louise Alder, Tim Mead, Jeremy Ovenden and John Graham-Hall.

Works by recent RCM composition graduates Helen Grime and Charlotte Bray can be heard in Proms concerts this season, as well as music by RCM alumni Britten, Holst, Tippett and Vaughan Williams.

Bernard Haitink, who regularly works with RCM musicians as a visiting conductor, marks the 50th-anniversary year of his first appearance at the Proms by conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony no 3.

The BBC Proms takes place between Friday 15 July and Saturday 10 September. Please visit the BBC Proms website for details of the full 2016 season.
