Lifetime Achievement Award for Julian Bream
RCM alumnus Julian Bream CBE has been announced as the Lifetime Achievement award winner in the 2013 Gramophone Classical Music Awards.
The 80-year-old guitarist collected his well-deserved award from guitarist Miloš Karadagli at the Gramophone Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 17 September.
Martin Cullingford, Editor of Gramophone, says the recipient of the magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award “should, through a lifetime devoted to performing, pursuing and understanding their art at the highest and deepest possible level, have enriched the cultural world of their day, served their instrument and its repertoire with tireless advocacy, and left a legacy that will inspire players and listeners for generations to come. All this can easily be said of our Lifetime Achievement Award-winner, the guitarist Julian Bream.”
Julian Bream studied at the RCM from 1949 to 1952, and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Music in 1981. He continues to support music and the arts through the Julian Bream Trust, which is currently supporting young guitarist Laura Snowden in her postgraduate studies at the RCM.
