Louise Alder wins Young Singer of the Year
Soprano alumna Louise Alder has won the Young Singer of the Year award in the International Opera Awards 2017.
The awards ceremony was held at the London Coliseum on Sunday 7 May, during which Louise sang an aria from Bellini's I puritani. The winners were selected by an international jury chaired by John Allison, editor of Opera magazine and classical music critic with The Daily Telegraph.
Louise graduated from the RCM International Opera School in 2013 as the inaugural Kiri Te Kanawa scholar, where she studied with Dinah Harris. She is currently performing as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto at Oper Frankfurt, and will represent England in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in June. Commenting on her success, Louise said 'It is a real thrill and an honour to be awarded Young Singer at the International Opera Awards 2017. Thank you to the jury and organisers of the awards for such a magnificent evening.'
Founded in 2012, the International Opera Awards is an annual celebration of excellence in opera around the world. It aims to raise the profile of opera as an art form, recognise and reward success and generate funds to provide bursaries for aspiring talent in opera.
BBC Radio 3 will broadcast highlights from the ceremony on Sunday 21 May at 7.30pm.
