Things to do

The Royal College of Music stages more than 500 events a year, featuring the world-class talents of our students and staff as well as regular visits from internationally renowned artists. Tickets for many events are free and others start from as little as £5. We also run events, workshops and other fun activities for children, families and schools through our outreach programme, RCM Sparks.

The RCM is also home to a fantastic collection of historical treasures and curiosities, which can be seen in exhibitions and digital resources curated by our museum and library.

Nearby are the renowned museums of Exhibition Road: the Natural History Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Science Museum. The RCM is a member of 16 local cultural institutions such as these, providing a thrilling range of activities across the arts and sciences for all ages to enjoy.

Please note, the opening hours for our various facilities vary at different times of the year. The hours stated below are those currently in effect.

General opening hours

Monday–Sunday: 8am–10pm

Refreshments available 9am–3pm Monday–Friday

Box Office & Shop opening hours

Monday–Friday: 10am–4pm
Saturday–Sunday: Closed

In addition, the Box Office will open for up to one hour before events for in-person sales and ticket collection only.

Library opening hours

Monday–Thursday: 9am–7pm
Friday: 9am–5.30pm
Saturday & Sunday: Closed

Last issues and returns are 15 minutes before closing time.

Access to RCM Museum resources

The Royal College of Music Museum is currently closed for refurbishment. You can access information about the museum collections through our online catalogue and many of the items feature in our series of digital exhibitions.

Getting to the RCM

The Royal College of Music is easy to reach on foot from nearby attractions in South Kensington, from Kensington High Street and from Kensington Gardens.

Travelling by train or Underground

All local stations are in TfL fare zone 1. 

London Underground

The closest station is South Kensington (Circle, District and Piccadilly lines), which is a 10–15 minute walk from the RCM.

Gloucester Road (Circle, District and Piccadilly lines) is a 15 minute walk from the RCM. High Street Kensington station (Circle and District lines) is a 20 minute walk or 10 minutes by bus.

Night Tube services run on the Piccadilly line on Friday and Saturday evenings, providing Underground connections from South Kensington and Gloucester Road throughout the night.

National Rail

The closest mainline stations are London Paddington and London Victoria. The RCM can be reached from any London terminal by Underground, bus or taxi.

Travelling by bus or coach

London Buses

Bus number 360 stops directly outside the RCM on Prince Consort Road.

Buses 91052 and 452 pass the Royal Albert Hall.

The number 70 travels along Queen's Gate.

Many other services run to South KensingtonKensington High Street and Knightsbridge from surrounding areas.

A comprehensive system of night buses operates between Central London and the rest of the city. The N9 passes the Royal Albert Hall and connects with other major routes at Trafalgar Square.

Coaches

Scheduled coach services run to destinations nationwide from Victoria Coach Station.

Travelling by bicycle

A Santander Cycles docking station is located on Prince Consort Road, adjacent to the RCM. There are several alternative docking stations nearby.

There are also a limited number of facilities for securing private bicycles on Prince Consort Road and in the surrounding area.

Parking near the RCM

There is metered parking on Prince Consort Road and the surrounding area. It costs £3.70 per hour for a maximum of four hours and is free after 6.30pm and on Sundays.

There are a limited number of disabled parking spaces on Prince Consort Road and Exhibition Road.

Other car parks and street parking are available in the South Kensington area, but spaces are often limited. Please check availability and restrictions before you travel.

There are designated motorbike bays in the area surrounding the Royal Albert Hall.

Food & drink

The RCM provides refreshments for students, visitors and staff throughout the year. There is also a range of restaurants, cafés and other establishments nearby, most adjacent to South Kensington station.

Lunch & snacks

BaRCM offers a great range of hot and cold snacks and beverages each weekday between 9am and 4pm as well as delicious full lunch options between 12pm and 2pm.

Evening performance refreshments

The RCM offers a range of pre-performance and interval refreshments, plus a selection of light snacks for those attending evening events in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall and the Britten Theatre. These are served between 6pm and 9pm (5pm for early evening performances) in the Britten Theatre Bar or the RCM Foyer Bar.
